Dear Friends,
I would like to invite you to a very special fundraiser I am hosting on behalf of my sister-in-law, Suja, a candidate for the 2nd District in the Long Beach City Council. For those of you unfamiliar with the 2nd District, it not only is home to incredible neighborhoods and dynamic (and diverse) communities, but also includes much of the commercial face of our City: the Port, Downtown, the Pike/Shoreline, and the Ocean and Broadway corridors. No matter where you are in Long Beach, you will be impacted by the direction of the 2nd District in the coming years, and thus it's critical to have a strong leader in this office.
Suja has accomplished a great deal since immigrating to America as a 7 year-old. She holds graduate degrees in both business and urban planning, served as an advocate for victims of domestic violence, shaped policy on regional and statewide water initiatives, and most recently stewarded Long Beach schools to unprecedented heights as President of the LBUSD Board of Education. As a Councilmember, Suja will continue the proud tradition of progressive politics that constituents of the 2nd District expect and deserve, advocating for neighborhoods, underrepresented communities, and sound business development without bowing to special interests.
Suja faces 10 opponents in the June special election, making this a very difficult campaign. She needs your help to be successful; whatever contribution you can offer would be wonderful (individuals can contribute up to $1,000). And more importantly, you can forward this email on to others, especially those who have known Suja and would be interested in supporting her in this race.
